Course Description

This course introduces teacher candidates to the theory and practice of teaching mathematics in the Senior division (Grades 9-12).  Integrating relevant ideas and content from educational psychology, cognitive science, technology and mathematics education, the course helps prospective teachers to:

  • understand the Ontario mathematics curriculum content (Grade 9 to 12)

  • understand, evaluate and apply a variety of teaching strategies

  • learn strategies for  addressing individual needs and diversity in the classroom

  • develop  pedagogically sound methods for integrating technology in meaningful ways within secondary school mathematics curriculum

  • investigate and apply a range of strategies to help make mathematics more engaging and relevant to secondary school students

  • evaluate, develop  and use an extensive range of web-based resources
